Valtteri Bottas, the Finnish F1 driver who has called Williams F1 home for the last few years will be taking over the vacant slot in the Mercedes-AMG Petronas roster. When Rosberg announced he was leaving the sport after winning the Drivers’ Championship last year, there was a flurry of rumors over who would replace the German. Now that all of the dominoes have fallen, we have the Finn from Williams taking over for the Silver Arrows, while the recently retired Felipe Massa will return to F1 and to Williams to take over the slot left by Bottas.
In a sport that is already set to see some interesting racing in 2017 thanks to a huge set of regulation changes, this game of musical chairs that has seen the driver roster shake up is only going to make things more exciting. After nearly a dozen podiums, can Bottas finally stand on the top step? Can Massa finally realize his dream of becoming World Champion in a new Williams car after 15 years of racing?
March cannot get here soon enough.
