Codemasters Announces Dirt 4, Coming This Summer

June, Codemasters and Deep Silver will be releasing the fourth numbered iteration of their wildly popular off-road racing series Dirt. Despite several spinoff games in the Dirt franchise, it’s been more than five years since we have had a proper numbered iteration.

the news, we have a new announcement trailer. The video is sparse with actual information about the game, but it does a good job of getting the blood pumping, despite its lack of actual gameplay footage.

The game doesn’t look to change the Dirt formula too much, but there is one new game-changing exception. Codemasters is adding a new feature called “Your Stage” that could give the game serious replay value.

Codemasters says that Your Stage is “an innovative rally route creation tool that allows you to produce a near infinite number of unique stages at the touch of a button.” Basically, you make a bunch of choices based on how long you want the track to be, the location it will be set in, difficulty, etc. and the game generates a new track based on your choices.

While the procedural level generation concept is nothing new, I like the fact that the player can set parameters to give themselves a decent “workout”, or create stages to challenge their friends, while adding a little bit of themselves into the levels.

Beyond the “Your Stage” addition to the game, Dirt 4 is showing up with more than 50 cars, five area locations with “millions” of routes, and multiple play modes. Dirt 4 even includes modes for Rallycross and Landrush racing.

If you are new to the series, Dirt 4 also comes with a fun new training mode based on the real-life DirtFish rally school near Seattle.

All in all, I’m going to keep an eye out for this game. It’s scheduled to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on June 6th, 2017.
